This is year, an Independence day is really special for us. We celebrated the same with People who are really doing a great work to uplift the nation. Last year , in Feb 2015, me & Sagar visited this “Prayog Bhumi”( An experiential way towards Educating) , school for first time. We are very thankful to Chitale Foundation who gave us the opportunity to deliver the computer to this school, last year. We are really impress with the work and concept for this school and we decided to do whatever we can .
This school cum hostel is run by “Shramik Sahayog “ since last 12 years. It is near Kolkewadi dam ( near 4th Stage of Koyana Project). A very beautiful natural surroundings are available to this school and I must say they are using the natural resources in a very optimal way, rather they use the same for educational purpose as well.
The students admitted here are from small villages around. These are the children from a strata of the society who are actual far away from importance of education and drop rate from schooling is very high. These students belongs to various tribes. The reason behind such drop out is not only the proximity of school, but mode of delivering the education, the educational systems are various other aspects, with which these kids are very uncomfortable.
Prayogbhumi, is a school which does not only believe in the classroom teaching; but very well understand that these children have a love and inclination towards nature and have inherent knowledge of natural resources. They are very comfortable to have a jungle walk, farming; they have even tremendous knowledge on the medicinal usages of various plants. Their education in the Prayohbhumi goes hand in hand with these all surroundings. The aim is to convert their knowledge in wisdom. Various vocational trainings are part of the school activities and students do really enjoy it.
During our visit to school, we met Roshan a 11 years old boy, who is really very enthu to show us his school and the various activities they do. One of the very well conducted project is, the school is generating the electricity at their own. A natural waterfall is utilized to run a small hydro plant with a tiny turbine. The heavy rain falls in this area are converted to electricity at least for 4-5 months.
School also have their own farm, and also use these produces for their own consumption. Roshan has invited us for “Bhat Lavani( Rice - plantation) and enjoy the Monsoon in next season . These are only few aspects of this special school. There are various people who are engaged with the school in different ways, some of them are donars, some them come and stay with these students, taught them various subjects and we all are contributing to the school in our own ways.
You can visit this school, its near 4th stage of Koyana Project, next to Kolake wadi Damn. It is very near from Chiplun. The school has also facility of guest house. If you ever plan a kokan visit, you can visit this school as part of your vacation and you can also enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of Sahyadri.
Presently, there are 30 students in Prayogbhmi. Yesterday we visited them as individual donor and also on behalf of Chitale Foundation( to deliver various educational instruments), could spend some time with all these students & their teachers and celebrated an Independence day in different way.
The school accepts donations in various modes. You can send them a cheque/ DD. School can also send you their requirements eg books, educational kits, etc and other requirements and you can directly fulfill these requirements . You can also adopt a child and sponsor yearly expenses. And in addition if you can visit them and spend some time with this kids its priceless. Our visits will inspire these kids and so many volunteers of “ Shramik Sahyog” , it’s an acknowledgment of their work. You can also come and teach the students with your expertise. We can be part of “Prayog Bhumi” in various ways.
These kind of projects will certainly uplift the nation and we can help such projects in our own ways. Isn’t it one of the best way to celebrate the Independence day, Diwali or Birthdays ? Certainly yes.
We will be doing whatever we can and we have decided that we will be keep visiting Roshan and his Friends .
Happy Independence Day !!!!!
